** How to use the Landmarks to Find the Goodies
The landmarks are to the exact location where the delivery terminals are. Most of these sims have redirects to land you elsewhere at a landing point. In this case it is sometimes possible to use that same landmark a second time to get to the spot, otherwise use the landmark's coordinates as a guide to walk or run there. I have also included directions to where the dispensers are found.
The tracking beacon greatly eases getting to a place for which you have numeric coordinates. It is a vertical beam that can be seen from afar in the region. Above the height (z) coordinate it is a red beam, and below this blue, so you can easily see if you are looking above, or below, the Z coordinate. Right click on the landmark in this notecard, select Open, and a Places dialog will open. Select Map, the World Map will open, and put the vertical beacon on the landmark's location that can be seen in both the region, and on the World Map as a red circle. The icon that is a yellow disk with the blue head and shoulders is your location. You can then use either map to home in on the location, or you can look for, and walk toward, the beacon as it appears in the sim.
For a landmark that is in your inventory its location in the World Map can be displayed by right clicking on it and selecting "Show on Map". The tracking beacon will be on the landmark's coordinates.
The tracking beacon's coordinate can be altered by manually entering them in the World Map's Location fields. The tracking beacon is turned off by clicking on the World Map's Clear button. It also turns off once your avatar gets within three meters of it.
A tracking beacon can also be set on an avatar in the region. To do this click on the four horizontal lines icon in the chat window, and select "Show Radar". In the radar window right click on a name and select "Track". The beacon will turn off once your avatar is within three meters of the tracked avatar. The can be prevented by navigating to "Avatar ⇒ Preferences =:> Firestorm ⇒ Extras (tab) ⇒ Deactivate tracking beacon when ... " - uncheck that box.
** How to See What Avatar, and Attachments, Others Have
If you see an avatar you like, or an item attached to the avatar you are curious about, you can easily find out the name, and maker, of the product: For the avatar right click on the bare skin of the body, or head. of the avatar you want to know the source of. (It has to be bare skin or you will get instead the information for the clothing, or something else, attached to the avatar). In the pie menu that opens select "More", and then select "Inspect". A window will open with several columns. The top most line in the Name column will indicate the make and model of the item you clicked on. To get to the store where that item is sold click on "See Creator Profile" at the bottom of the window. The creator's profile will open. A creator will generally always have information about how to get to his, or her, store in the profile. This can be in the About field, or in picks.
For an item you see attached to the avatar that you want to know about inspect it in the same way.
A classic avatar cannot itself be inspected.
Another convenient way to know what people are wearing, including the avatar body, is this free HUD:
https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/MB-What-is-She-Wearing/9129140
More capable HUDs are available for purchase. These can be found in SL's MP with a search for "what is she wearing".
** Outfit Folder Management
I wrote this section after learning that there are many in Gor, and SL, who do not know manage outfits. Using using outfit folders will save a lot of time, and potential grief.
Linden Labs has provided an Inventory folder named "Outfits". Its contents is managed by left clicking your avatar, and in the Pie Menu navigating to "Appearance ⇒ Edit Outfit". This opens the Appearance editor. The outfits are managed in its "Outfits" tab. Only this Editor can manage the Inventory's system Outfits folder. It is not possible to do so using the Inventory manager (Ctrl I). Each folder in that "Outfits" folder is one outfit. It is not possible to organize Outfit folders into subfolders of the Outfits folder to categorize the outfits for easy navigation. For many outfits this can make it cumbersome. I therefore recommend against using the Appearance editor to manage outfits. Instead I recommend creating your own folder to contain outfits, and using the Inventory manager to manage outfits. This allows much easier navigation among many outfits.
So it is recommended an outfit be saved in a folder outside the system Outfits folder, in subfolders of your own creation, named, perhaps, "!Outfits". The exclamation mark will cause this folder to appear high in your Inventory folder list making it easy to find. Once an outfit is saved one can rapidly change between avatars, and outfits, by right clicking an outfit's subfolder you have stored outfit information in, and selecting "Replace Current Outfit". Setting up outfit folders are vitally important because:
Different clothing may require different avatar alpha layer patterns. You will not want to bring up the body's alpha HUD to adjust alpha with every clothing change. It is easier to save several body copies with different alpha patterns. For BOM ibodies, an alpha pattern, as well as skins, and tattoos, can be worn just as any other clothing item, making it so only one body instance is required. in Inventory.
You may have different clothing, weapon, and combat meter combinations you will need to switch between rapidly.
There are pranksters who, as a practical joke, trick people into clicking on a link that will turn any victim who clicks on it into either a rabbit, or monkey. For those who have their outfits preserved in their Outfits folder this is quickly recovered from making it nothing more than a funny practical joke that I am sure the pranksters intend. But for those who have not, and therefore must spend a lot of time getting both their avatar, and outfit, back together, it becomes a mean, and time consuming trick.
What should be stored in an Outfits subfolder are not the inventory items themselves, but links to the actual item elsewhere in the Inventory. This allows the same item to be reused in two or more outfits. The reuse is a convenience because a change made to an item, such as a change in a body's alpha layer, needs be changed only once, rather than for each instance of its is use in the subfolders. Links are created elsewhere in the Inventory by copying the item to be linked to, selecting a folder to save the link in, and using the "Paste as link" menu item.
After being satisfied that your work on an outfit is complete it can be easily saved by copying the entire contents of the "Current Outfit" folder into a subfolder in your "Outfits" folder. The "Current Outfit" folder contains only links, and there is a link in it to every attached item.
A convenient way to change all links from an outdated item, to an updated version of an item, is to right click on the outdated item and select "Replace links". Then drag the item the links are to be updated to into the "New" field, and click on Start.
Any number of additional Inventory manager instances can opened using Ctrl + Shift + I. Items can be dragged between Inventory manager instances.
All items you ever receive should be stored in a delivery archive folder, which is organized into subfolders named after the vendor, or whatever the source is. Use only copies from this archive. That way it will always be possible to begin again with a fresh copy should things get messed up, or corrupted.
For more information do a web search for "second life outfits folder set up".
** Why Mesh?
The below notecard, which is given out in the Dark Alley sim, describes well the importance of a mesh body in regard to finding roleplay::
The Dark Alley location:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Dark%20Alley/169/47/1701
Mesh bodies are important enough to the Dark Alley sim owner that he requires mesh bodies in his sim's Dark Forest area, and he has announced in the Dark Alley group the intention to require mesh bodies for the entire sim beginning in the year 2020.
Regardless of which gender you are, an attractive avatar is just as important in the virtual worlds as it is in RL.
** About Mesh Bodies
- About Mesh
The classic starter avatars that new users get to begin their SL experience with are composed of fundamental shapes called prims. These have corners that are hidden as much as possible by texture. The most noticeable difference is the feet which appear webbed. Breasts, buttocks, and faces are noticeably composed of sectioned polygons with flat surfaces.
Mesh is a 3D modeling technique that allows for smoothly curved surfaces. The feet, and all curved body surfaces, look natural.
The mesh body is worn in addition to a classic body. A classic body can be changed to a different classic body, but but it is impossible to be without one. So the classic bodies are hidden by an alpha layer. These are attachments that are included with every mesh body. There will be several alpha layer attachments to select from to provide options whether or not to hide the classic feet , or classic hands. There will not be an option to hide the classic head. Mesh heads come with their own alpha layer attachment for that.
In addition to the alpha layer that hides the classic body, there is another alpha layer designed to hide areas of skin that show through (clip through) the clothing. This layer is built into the mesh body itself. These are highly segmented. Whether a segment will show skin, or be transparent, is controlled by a HUD which is included in the vendor's delivery folder.
A PDF tutorial on how to set up a mesh body, and manage Inventory for them, is available for download here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ipuap99uva4vz5r/file
- The Two Types of Mesh Clothing
There are two basic types of mesh clothing. These are rigged mesh, and rigged fitted mesh (aka fitmesh, or fitted mesh).
Rigged mesh clothing will typically come with several standard sizes which are not specific to any make and model of mesh body. With these it is possible to avoid using the mesh body's alpha HUD to prevent skin showing through (clipping through) provided you conform your avatar's body to one of those standard sizes. If the alpha HUD usage is opted for instead it will be necessary to maintain several mesh body copies with alpha patterns specific to the outfit.
Fitted mesh clothing automatically conforms to the avatar's body shape, regardless of what that shape may be. For this to happen clothing must be made specifically for a make, and model, of mesh body. Before purchase look for your body maker's logo on the sales board, or look for it to be listed on the clothing's web page in the MP. If it is presented as Fitted Mesh, along with a list of specific body makers, it is fitted mesh. Always test the demo version.
In spite of rigged, or fitted, mesh clothing, avatar animations my still make skin clip through the clothing briefly. If this is troublesome it may still be necessary to alpha.
Mesh bodies are capable of wearing applied clothing. Applied clothing exists only as color patterns (textures) on one of the mesh body's surface layers. If these are to be used then it is necessary to a have a copy of the mesh body for each outfit any applied clothing is applied to. Applied clothing will follow all body contours, including breast, and buttocks, cleavage. Applied pants look like yoga pants.
- Mesh and RLV
The necessity to have a mesh body copy in Inventory for each needed alpha pattern, or applied clothing, makes it often not practical for individual clothing items to be stripped from a mesh body under the control of another using RLV If an individual clothing items are to be removed piecemeal. RLV item removal can remove, replace, or add. It cannot do both remove, and replace, in one operation and so two operations would be required. Likewise it cannot do replace, and add, in one operation. So to make individual clothing articles that are applied, or have alpha patterns, removable in one replace operation it would be necessary to have in the #RLV folder a subfolder for each state of clothing removal.
The RLV fast stripping feature, that most bondage furniture has, which is a way to remove all clothing with a single menu button push, can only remove items, It cannot be set up to replace the avatar with one that has all segments visible, and nothing on any of the applied layers.
The Peanut No 9 collar offers a work around for this:
https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Virtual-Disgrace-Glimpse-of-Nothing/14380937
Beware that this resets the avatar's alpha layer. So when clothing is to be worn again this makes it necessary to either to restore the alpha a pattern by editing it once again, or replace the mesh body with a backup that still has the needed alpha layer pattern. if all your clothing has the Maitreya Auto-Hide feature this would not be a problem.
There are slave collars that have a way to remove and replace all in an RLV subfolder. More information:
Original OpenCollar:
https://opencollar.cc/
Peanut No 9 OpenCollar Fork by Virtual Disgrace:
https://www.opencollar.at/
At the time of this writing the only mesh body vendor that has addressed the above RLV stripping issues is Maitreya. Their mesh bodies come with a feature called Auto-Hide. Clothing scripted to work with it will automatically apply alpha to the mesh body, and remove the alpha when the clothing is removed. For clothing that does not have Auto-Hide scripts the customer can easily insert them into a clothing item. More about Auto-Hide:
https://strawberrysingh.com/2015/06/21/maitreya-autohide-bodyfaces-tutorial/
This solution will increase script count and a region server's memory usage.
The .outfits folder is a subfolder of the #RLV folder. It replaces entire outfits. During the change the avatar body will disappear for 1.5 seconds. It is not meant for removing individual articles of clothing. It can replace avatar instances with the desired alpha layer pattern. To use this to remove individual articles it will be necessary to have an outfit in this folder for each desired state of undress.
For more information about RLV folders:
https://davrosharkness.wordpress.com/2018/01/31/rlv-folders/
Clothing made for the classic avatars will not work with mesh bodies. Mesh bodies require clothing made specifically for them.
Hair, and clothing made for mesh bodies, can be made from sculpted prims. These are expensive in processing time for graphics cards to render, and so contribute to lag when in viewed in a viewer. But they do have the advantage of being resizable to fit any avatar shape using the viewer's build tool.
Mesh clothing burdens the server less than sculpted prims. Unlike sculpted prims, mesh items cannot be resized using the build tool. Mesh items can come with resize scripts which should be deleted once sized (there will be a delete option in its menu) to reduce server memory usage. Resize, then delete the resize scripts from, only the copies. Keep original untouched items in an archive.

- The Neck Fix
Most mesh bodies do not come with mesh heads. In this case, to have a mesh head, it is a separate purchase. It is possible to use the classic head with a mesh body. Mesh body makers include a "neck fix" for this purpose. The neck fix blends the mesh body color with the head color to make a smooth transition that eliminates the ring around the neck.
Most neck fixes do not work with mesh heads. In this case it makes the neck look worse.
There is a a male freebie neck fix offered here that does claim mesh compatibility:
https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Apricot-Paws-SLUV-Neck-Fix-Freebie/14958878
- The now you see it, now they don't, mesh body
It can happen that you can see your mesh body in its entirety in your viewer, but everyone else will tell you they only see your head, hands, feet, and clothing. To them your mesh body has disappeared. The expedient fix is to navigate to: Avatar ⇒ Avatar Health ⇒ Refresh Attachments. But this is a temporary fix for when the circumstances that caused the disappearance happens again, the avatar will once again disappear. Such circumstances are whenever you TP to a different sim, or travel across a sim boundary.
To prevent this happening again it is necessary that no other items be attached to where your mesh body is attached. There is a list of all attached items, and their attachment points, in your Inventory's "Current Outfit" folder. If your mesh body is attached to the same attachment point as another item then that is the cause. What is in this folder are not the items themselves, but references (aka links) to the item elsewhere in Inventory. To find the actual item right click on the link and select "Find Original". Do this for you mesh body, detach it. Right click on it, and in the pop up menu select "Attach To". Then select an attachment point no other item in your Inventory uses, or will likely ever use, such as "Tail Base" if you never attach tails to that body. This new attachment point will be remembered for this Inventory item every time it is attached.
- Saving Your Outfit
The "Current Outfit" folder is an easy way to save a currently attached outfit so that it can be quickly changed to. Just create a folder in the "Outfits' folder, and then copy and paste all the links from the "Current Outfit" folder into this new folder. There are items that would be wise to exclude, such as "#Firestorm LSL Bridge v2.24", and classic body parts such as eyes.
Saving your outfit this way will enable you to rapidly recover from practical jokers who try to trick you into clicking on a link in their profiles that will turn your avatar into rabbit, or monkey..
You may want to copy an outfit in your outfits folder to make variations of it. In the subfolders of the system supplied Outfits folder you can copy links, to other folders in your outfits folders, but as of Firestorm 6.3.9 you cannot copy folders, and all its sub folders directly into the outfits folder (Firestorm bug?). What is possible to do is copy a folder, and all its subfolders, into a folder in your Inventory's "Inventory" folder (root level). To keep thinks organized, and easy to find, call that folder something like !temp, or !transfer. After the copy is done you can drag the copied folder into your outfits folder, or subfolder there of, and rename it.
** How To Edit Your Body Shape
The default shapes that come with the mesh bodies are poor ones. This is especially true for the default female shapes, which are generally always an "A" shape, aka "spoon" shape. A really attractive shape requires that they be edited. The next section after this one describes how to create attractive shapes, and the science behind their attractiveness.
If you have a mesh head, start with a body shape that came with head. Otherwise start with one that came with your mesh body. Right click your body. In the pie menu that opens navigate to:
Appearance ⇒ Edit Shape.
Your avatar will enter a pose mode, and you will see sliders in tabbed pages. Each slider will have two images over it that show what effect the left, and right, most slider positions have on the shape. The effect of a slider position is immediate on your avatar. You can undo all changes made by clicking n the "Undo Changes" button on the bottom of the window.
Unless the edits are saved, the edits you make are temporary, and the original shape will be reverted to when the shape editor is closed. There are two ways the shape can be saved:
Once any shape slider position is changed, a "< Save" button appears in the shape editor window's upper left corner. This will overwrite the currently attached shape in Inventory, and so all edits will be in effect for all outfits that are linked to that shape.
Once any shape slider position is changed, the "Save As" button on the shape editor window's bottom left is no longer grayed out. This button opens a dialog that has a field into which a name for the new shape is entered, and in which a default new name appears. This name will be the same as the old name with the characters "(new)" appended to it. This name can be changed by you. Once saved under a new name this new shape will remain attached to your avatar. However, all your outfits will still be linked to your old shape, and so the old shape will be reverted to when you change to another outfit that has been stored in Inventory. Updating all stored outfits to the new shape is easily done by doing the replace links procedure. In your Inventory right click the old shape, and select "Replace Links". In the dialog that opens drag the new shape into the "New:" field, and then click on Start. The Dialog will display the progress it is making in the replacement process. If there are many links this could take a minute or more to complete.
Your shape changes can can also be saved into shape you have currently attached by clicking on the "<Save" button to the upper left.
If neither the Save. or Save As, operations are done, the edits will be lost when you close the shape editor.
Please read the below, all the way to, and including, the Vitruvuian Shape section before shaping your body. These sections include vital information on theory, and practice, regarding how to determine the most attractive shape slider positions.
** The Attractive Female Body Shape
- The Shape
The link to the below Psychology Today article describes how, and why, the female avatar's visual appearance is most especially important for males. They have been naturally selected during evolution to be visually oriented in their attractions. There is a specific female body shape template that natural selection selected them for, and thereby programed to be attracted to. This template is basically the same for every male regardless of his ethnicity, race, culture, even remotely isolated cultures. Evolution does not operate in accordance with political correctness, egalitarian ideas of what should be, or what one might want to be. It is simply survival oriented. During the course of evolution men who where attracted to that specific template's shape had more children who survived to produce more children than those who did not, and so attraction to that template was passed on more often than attraction to others until the other templates were had no more by any male. This natural selection is still operating today., and this means this template is a stable one (it will not change).
These articles provide guidance in regard to shaping female bodies and heads: For the female who wants to be the first to be selected by males it is crucial for a female to read these because females do not have the naturally selected for innate knowledge of what is attractive to men that men have.

https://www.craftsy.com/post/drawing-a-head/
A common body shape mistake I see women make is excessively wide hips, and narrower upper chest width, as is typical of default spoon body shapes offered by vendors in SL. These mistaken dimensions fail the well balanced hourglass shape. This shape is one where the hour glass width at the top is the same as the bottom, as shown in this diagram:
https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VIFk8-Eo0jA/TkCmMpu1uqI/AAAAAAAAAGU/gUuhtNCT-dw/s1600/prop_female.gif
This is the true hourglass shape men are most attracted to, and seek to see. The rib cage width (adjusted by the Torso tab's Shoulder slider) should be the same width as the hips.
Another common mistake I see is excessively large breasts and buttocks. To the male eye there is a point beyond which larger is NOT better, and can actually look grotesque. There is an optimum size for everything.
It is not possible to put a tape measure around an avatar to make it the ideal 35-23-35 inches given in the above Eternal Curves article. So it is necessary to compare the avatar being shaped to visual examples such as of Playboy models, movie stars, any who make their living being attractive to men. Also there are cartoon drawings drawn by men. The male artist will express in his art what he is attracted to, which of course will be the template the Eternal Curves article describes.
Example pictures of females in RL that conform to the template:

Francine York
https://www.listal.com/viewimage/5365575
These examples show rib cage and hip width nearly the same, and a narrower waist between them. Bo Derek's breasts are about the right size. Joy Harmon is most especially good at having the rounded, and oval, shapes which indicate large DHA Omega 3 fatty acid reservoirs. For reasons expressed in the Eternal Curves article do NOT look to the stick figured runway fashion models. Fashion designers select these stick figures because they are easy to make clothes for, and NOT what is attractive to men. It can be a deadly mistake to do so, and in RL starve oneself to the point of emulating them. A real life example of this is the tragic end of the renown musician, and singer, Karen Carpenter.
Examples of mistaken social cues can also be seen in the majority of female avatar shapes in SL, which have narrow shoulders in proportion to hip width. Such shapes are default for about all purchased modern mesh avatars. These shapes then become what females are accustomed to seeing, and from which they get their mistaken cues from.
An RL example of excessively wide hips and narrow ribcage to avoid is Kim Kardashian's A, aka spoon, shaped body:
https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/images/hbz-kim-kardashian-0816-splash-1534452051.jpg?crop=1xw:1xh;center,top&resize=980:*
As the Eternal Curves article explains men are looking for female bodies that have plenty of room to carry a fetus, and also for generous stores of Omega 3 DHA fatty acids on the woman's body, to provide to the fetus's brain during pregnancy, and during nursing after birth. A major place where this is stored are the legs. A sign that woman has room are the broad ribcage, just as wide broad hips, and narrow waist, which is the classic hourglass shape. A sign of DHA storage there is a slightly oval shaped leg which is adjusted by the Package and Saddle Bags slider in the Legs tab. The Hip Width slider is in the Legs tab. The chest width is adjusted by the Shoulders slider in the Torso tab.

- Recommended Female Shape Slider Positions
For ready made shapes for classic bodies see the "The Vitruvian Shape" shape section below.
An female body that has been optimally shaped for attraction will be insanely attractive to the male. Unless the males have been educated in such things, they will not themselves know why. They just naturally know that they are. Evolution wires the template into their brains without also wiring the knowledge of why. Evolution itself does not know why, because it does not need to. All it does is naturally select for success.
Attractive female avatars enhance prospects for sexual roleplay. Just as natural selection happens in RL, so does selection happen in SL. In many ways SL reflects RL, and this is one of those ways.
The slider positions given below were adjusted for a Maitreya Lara body. 5.1, and a Lelutka Greer head, but will very likely work with other mesh bodies. They will create a female body with a height of 5' 7", or 1.7 meters. This is average for a North American RL female, but shorter than is common for SL. The sliders are set according to the above principles. They will create a super hot avatar with the round, oval, and hourglass, shapes. The created hourglass will be well balanced, and be enhanced, by a rib cage as wide as the hips. This shape will trigger a man's mating instinct in a powerful way. It will drive the minds of many a man mad with desire.
The Greer head was chosen in accordance with the Seminole Indian picture with wide jaw in the above Weston Price article. The Greer's default shape is not very attractive. It can, however. be made really hot with some shape edits. I expect other wide jawed Lelutka heads could also be shaped to be as hot.
These shape slider positions match as closely as possible the template. The more the template is deviated from, the less attractive the body will be. It is possible to have too much, or too little, of anything. Enormous buttocks, and breasts, look grotesque to the male mind.
This Lelutka Greer head, and Maitreya Lara body, shape has all the below slider positions:

** The Attractive Male Body Shape
- The Shape
It would make sense that women have an innate template for a most attractive male body shape for the similar evolutionary reasons men have one for women. The success of the Chippendale Dancers is strong evidence of this. Look to men who make their living being attractive to women for shape examples.
For the same reason women do not have an innate clue as to what female shape attracts males, it can be expected that men do not have any innate knowledge of what male shape women are attracted to. For males I recommend getting advice from females about this.
Muscle mass:
Just as the size of sexually attractive female features such a breast, or buttocks., can be overdone, so can muscle mass be overdone. Be muscular, but avoid bulking up alike a professional wrestler.
Shoulders
Women are attracted to broad shoulders, and upper body somewhat like an inverted Christmas tree.
Buttocks:
They are attracted to rounded buttocks, suggestive of muscular gluteus maximus.
This diagram shows the ideal male shape:

- Recommended Male Shape Slider Positions
For ready made shapes see the "The Vitruvian Shape" shape section below.
The shape sliders below were adjusted with a Sliink Physique body and a Catwa Daniel Bento head. It is expected the same slider values will provide similar results with other bodies. These values will produce a muscular, but not overly muscular body, with nice round buttocks, that women like to see. The height will be 6' 4", which is bit on the tall side for an RL male, but still realistic. It is shorter than typical for male avatars in SL.

** The Vitruvian Shape
No discussion of body shape would be complete without mentioning the Virtuvian Man, which is a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci done around 1490. The drawing, and its notes, are a based on, and are a slight modifications of, the proportions written by the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius. An English translation of these proportions are at the bottom of this Wikipedia article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitruvian_Man
An exacting person could create prims based on these proportions to guide the slider positions. A discussion of how to do this, and the proper body proportions, is here:
https://pennycow.blogspot.com/2011/08/matter-of-proportion.html
This article is where the ideal shape diagrams linked to above are from, and provides a shaping guide for male, and female, bodies.
This article is a commentary about where avatar shapes in SL have gone wrong:
https://forgreatproportions.tumblr.com/
The above articles do not describe how to do well shaped heads. This article does describe the female head shape proportions:
https://www.easydrawingtips.com/how-to-draw-female-face-step-by-step-tutorial/
And this one does the same for male heads:
https://www.easydrawingtips.com/how-to-draw-male-face-step-by-step-tutorial/
Here is information about eyes:

There is a freebie shaping guide tool available here:
https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Shape-Tools/1835986
There is a set of male and female Vitruvian freebie shapes given away In-World, and the marketplace. I got word from the shapes creator these were made for classic bodies. How well they work with any given mesh body is unpredictable because of the differing responses different avatars have to any given shape slider position. For mesh body users these can still be useful as something to compare with while using a classic body.
https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Vitruvian-Shapes-Full-Perm-Set-122/4426725
and iIn-World here:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Harriot/116/20/70
From the landing area this is the boards are under the stairs in the building to your right, or East. There are three shapes offered for each gender, of different muscularities. All these Vitruvian shapes are thoroughly checked for good anatomical proportions, and labeled with the correct SL height. These shapes will change your head. But if you apply the same head shape slider positions that you had on your former shape, your head will look as it was with these Vitruvian shapes.
Next to these Vitruvian boards are prims for comparing your height with average RL heights, and an avatar height measurer.
** Hair
The male is most attracted to big hair, and long hair. This hair is suggestive of good health, and so males have been naturally selected to be attracted to it. Think for example Farah Fawcett
https://wallpapercave.com/farrah-fawcett-wallpapers
** Shaping Your Body in RL
Suppose the real life body you were born with is a spoon shape, and you desire an hourglass shape. You can still have an hourglass shape if you go to the gym, or purchase a weight lifting set, and build up your trapezius, deltoid, latissimus dorsi, and pectoralis major, muscles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deltoid_muscle
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latissimus_dorsi_muscle

RL examples of of such muscular development are gymnasts such as:

Croqui
There is a Midnight Madness board here that gives away a comic book mesh avatar for free. The count is set at 35 which is NOT reset to zero if this count is not reached at midnight SLT.
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/City%20Plaza/19/45/25
New Resident Island
ere there is clothing, hair, a freebie avatar for those who are 365 days old in SL, and an outlet for the Ruth, and Ross, avatars that are available to all at any age. If you take the TP board to the Shopping Village there are tutorials on mesh avatars, RP, and Inventory management. In the pirate ship located there is freebie medieval clothing, including pirate outfits, and furry (humanized animal) avatars.
Warning: The owner of New Resident Island is not tolerant of CARP, BDSM, and rape roleplay. She will ban from her region any who show such groups in their profiles. Recommend this be hidden from the public before going there.Freebie Avatar Versions of Purchased Versions from Vendors
There are vendors that offer free versions of the mesh bodies they sell. These are teaser bodies that are offered on the expectation the user will get frustrated with their limitations and yield to the temptation to upgrade to purchased versions. They do not come with applier layers, nor do they come with an alpha HUD. So any clothing acquired for them must be rigged fitted mesh. It is crucial to test demo versions of any clothing considered for them. The best bet is for clothing that includes versions made specifically for the mesh body. A vendor will generally always list the avatar vendors the clothing is made for. But sometimes, as explained below, mesh clothing will fit a body from a vendor it is not made for.
⇒ Legacy Male & Female Freebie Avatars
Offered here are male, and female, bodies, each are very nearly free at a cost L$1. These are the best freebie bodies available anywhere right now. This giveaway is described an anniversary give away, so possibly it will not be offered for long. Legacy used to be TMP, which did offer a freebie then, but that offering did not last. This freebie does not include a head.
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Meshbody/127/125/47
Behind you from where you are facing when you land, under the #FREE Classic" sign there are the "Men", and "Women" teleporters. Touch one of these according the body gender you want to acquire to be teleported to where they are sold. Touch the "Join Our Group" sign to join the "The Shops!" group. Then touch the "Get | Free Edition" to purchase the body for L$1.
There are several outfits for this Legacy body available for L$0, and L$1, at Kira couture:
https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/166627
It is best to start with the shape included with the head, and here this in no exception. The female body shape this comes with is an unattractive spoon shape. See the "* How To Edit Your Body Shape" section. The modifications I recommend right now to make it into an attractive hourglass shape are:
Body ⇒ Body Fat ⇒ 10 (This makes more rounded shape suggestive of DHA Omega 3 Fatty acid stores.)
Head ⇒ Head Size ⇒ 61 (This is to match Vitruvian shaping guides.)
Torso ⇒ Torso Muscles ⇒ 80 (This is beefed up so as not to look like a stick figure, make for more of a stronger athletic look.)
Torso ⇒ Shoulders ⇒ 100 (Contributes to an hourglass shape.)
Torso ⇒ Love Handles ⇒ 59 (Widens the waist a bit to a more healthy natural hip to waist ratio, rather than one that seems to have been corseted.)
Legs ⇒ Hip width ⇒ 52 (Contributes to a balanced hourglass shape.)
⇒ Genus Freebie Heads
Genus has recently come back online after suffering a copyright infringement legal challenge. They are offering a freebie female mesh head, and a skin applier, at:
The gift head is given away from a board on the wall to the right of the heads offered for sale. The skin applier is on a board on the floor, also to the right.
It is necessary to join the Genus group to receive the freebies. The head is can be configured to be an applier head, or a BOM head.. Although the default head is that of a female, it might be possible to edit its shape to male characteristics.
This Genus head is being billed as a Unisex head. But the default shape is that of a female head. Maybe its shape can be edited to be that of a male.
:
⇒ Altamura Male & Female Freebie Avatars
These cost L$1 to acquire In-World, which is immediately refunded. Essentially these are freebies. They come with highly detailed alpha HUDs. But these bodies, being freebies, are not Omega Applier compatible,. Their skins cannot be changed. Acquiring clothing made specifically for Altamura bodies can be difficult. Most clothing made for Maitreya will fit Altamura well enough. The Alpha HUD may have to be used. The freebie Altamura avatars have a poor connection between head and body at the neck, where there is a ring on both male, and female, bodies. It is due to there being a low angle corner at the connection. Light will reflect differently due to reflecting off a different angle on either side of the connection, causing the ring to be visible under many lighting conditions. Tests with the Robert avatar showed a poor skin color match between head and body. It is still sufficient to RP with though.
Altamura has distributed its freebie offerings in many locations in SL. There is no one place where all the freebie avatars are available.
The In-World Altamura store has gift boards located at:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Altamura%20Store/66/147/34
These gift boards give landmarks to where the freebie mesh avatars are found. One of them is a store in London City where there is in addition to the freebie male, and female, Altamura avatars, there is also a lot of freebie Altamura compatible mesh clothing. All in this Lindon City store appears to be free.
The Altamura female Emanuele, and male Arron avatars are available at
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Unihispana/133/183/24
The Altamura female Valentina avatar is available at:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/AJUDA%20BRASIL%20VOLUNTARIOS/35/30/23
Walk to your left, and perpendicular to the red path on the ground. Enter the multistory building ahead. Pass the Vista Animation AO freebies on your left. The Valentina avatar is the red sales board on your right.
The Altamura Max Mesh Body is given away on the third floor of the above Ajuda SL Brasil building. at:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/AJUDA%20BRASIL%20VOLUNTARIOS/14/33/51
⇒ Andrey Mesh
The Andrey head is African. It is in the same location as the Altamura Max Body above.
⇒ A nearly free mesh body offered by eBODY
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Coral%20Island/250/166/2001
Cost is 1L$. Includes feet, hands, thong, and undie. Does not include head. Needs a lot of shape editing. None of the 6 included shapes are attractive. The neck fix does not work, at least on this freebie version, yet the HUD seems to indicate it should. The overall quality of this body is poor especially regarding how the breasts changes size.
⇒ Low Cost Mesh Heads
This article is about low cost mesh heads:
http://slnewbie.com/2017/09/21/free-mesh-heads-second-life/
Akeruka has regular promotions where they included at free mesh head with a 150L$ membership. These typically happen around holidays such as Christmas, and the 4th of July:
https://mainstoresl.com/akeruka-ak-group-gift-bento-mesh-head/
I do not know of a place to get a mesh head at no cost. Catwa did offer a freebie version of their Freya head in May of 2020. Whether they will do so again is unknown.

- Ruth and Roth Avatars
Ruth and Roth 2.0 are scratch-built, open-source, Opensim/Second Life compatible mesh avatars designed by Shin Ingen. These are complete bodies with heads, hands, and feet. They include Blender (.blend) files, DAE exports, template textures, skins. The goal is to make a high quality, 100% free mesh avatar that can use accessories from Maitreya and other quality mesh products.
https://www.outworldz.com/Secondlife/Tools/tools.htm
The Second Life upload fees for these avatars can be avoided by getting these avatars from the Marketplace. The most up to date versions are available from Heavy Industry. Both Ruth, and Roth, come in BoM, and non-BoM versions. BoM stands for "Bakes on Mesh". A BoM compatible mesh avatar is capable of wearing clothing made for classic bodies:
https://community.secondlife.com/knowledgebase/english/bakes-on-mesh-r1512/
The non BoM versions come with alpa-cut HUDs. The BoM versions have a variety of alpha patterns the can be worn. These alpha patterns are available only in the In-World store. For Ruth, the non BoM version comes with clothing.
The Latest version of Ruth, and Roth, are available at:
https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/212312
The latest versions have the "Too" suffix.
Help is available in this group:
Ruth and Roth Community
secondlife:///app/group/33852aff-d59c-fe01-85c4-7e0ec7d2d9ce/about
and on Discord on the RuthAndRoth server:
https://discord.gg/GKcwhn
In this Discord group the developer Ada Radius regularly posts the development status.
All body parts in the Roth BoM avatar must have their "Alpha mode" set to "Alpha blending" for the alpha attachments to work. This is the default setting. If the alpha attachments do not work verify this setting by attaching the complete avatar, in Inventory right click an attached body part, and navigate to the "Texture" tab. The "Alpha mode" selection is halfway down this tab.
As of this writing:
As can be seen by the letters "RC" in the names of these bodies these bodies are in development. The RC in the name stands for Release Candidate. The RC numbers indicate Ruth is more developed than Roth, and this shows in the avatars.
Roth has a ridge on the sides of its neck. This can be greatly reduced using the neck width slider.
Roth also has a minor midriff bulge. This is fixable only in the mesh. There is not a shape slider that can fix this.
Ruth, and Roth, have a head with edges that are worse than what is characteristic of classic system heads. This might change in future versions.
Roth RC3 is not ready to meet the need for a mesh body.
Both Ruth, and Roth, have heads with ridges commonly seen on classic bodies. These heads do not yet meet the need for use as a mesh body. It is recommended to use other mesh heads with Ruth and Roth. Before purchasing one always test with a demo head version of a prospective purchase.
Ruth RC3 is better than the classic body. Its feet are not webbed, and there is smoothness in the body areas where the classic body has polygon ridges. Nevertheless, the Ruth body is not yet developed enough to meet mesh body needs.
Many of the clothing items in the Inventory's Library folder will work with the BoM versions of Ruth, and Roth, just as any clothing made for the classic body will. It is possible to mix an match from different outfits there. This goes a long way to solving the problem of clothing the Ruth and Roth avatars. When an item from the library is attached, what is really attached is a copy of the item that is created elsewhere in your Inventory. These copies should be moved as appropriate for how you organize your Inventory.

** Cheap Mesh Avatars
Cynthia High Res Fitted Mesh Body: L$. 10 Avatar + fatpack with clothing L$99
I do not see the point in purchasing it at this time. But it is there so I list it. This body responds to standard shape change sliders. This includes breast size. It has a vagina. A head is not included. According to Anna Alice, the owner of the Anna Erotica, it is intended a classic head be used with it, or any head that fits a classic body.
Anna has told me the 2.0 Cynthia version she is now working on will have an Alpha HUD, and Omega compatible applier layers, and include a head. that will be seamless with the body around the neck.
The Cynthia body appears to be sold only from the SL Market Place at:

Valhalla
Valhalla sells clothing that comes with complete male, and female, Bento mesh avatars including head, feet, hands, and genitals (L$1500). Although these are not cheap, the total cost for body, head, and outfit is lower than for other high end avatars. The avatar, and outfit, themes here are Viking, Torvaldsland Gor, Gorean Panther Girl, camouflage, military. The avatars of both genders are muscular, and among the offerings here are viking warrior/hunter outfits for both male, and female. The female avatar shapes are not Vitruvian. They might be sufficiently editable to be that. Try the demos before making a purchasing decision.

** How to Purchase Clothing for Freebie Mesh Avatars
This is a challenge for avatars that do not come with HUDs to hide where poor fitting outfits have the avatar's skin showing through, and have no ability to use use appliers. It nevertheless can be done. Try demo versions before you buy.
Most clothing vendors will, in the delivery package for an outfit, include a version of the outfit fitted for each of several vendors. It often happens that a version made for a mesh body from vendor other than the one who body the body is made for will fit. This is especially true for clothing that is thick, such as one made from furs. The thickness can hide skin that would otherwise show through. It is essential to find out in advance of purchase if an outfit can be made to fit by trying its demo version.
An example is what was found for a freebie TMP body (no longer available) at the Pucca Firecaster Creations PFC store:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Pirate%20Cove/126/123/53
Outfits that fit well are:
Argollas – Belt and bra for Physique fit very well. This one's thick fur does much to prevent skin showing through.
Warrior blood v2 – Isis, Lara, and Physique fit reasonably well.
Wild – The loin cloth for Nana, and top for Physique Busty.
The best bet are the sleeveless and pantless outfits.
This is a low cost mesh outfit that might work:

An in world demo is available.

** Expensive Mesh
These recommendations are for those who are willing to pay a lot of money.
I have used the pie menu's Inspect feature to inspect many female bodies and I have found, as I am sure you will, they are generally always a "Maitreya Mesh Body - Lara". This is what I recommend, not just because most every female has them, but also because I find them hot. To really make them hot, shape it according the "** The Attractive Female Body Shape" chapter above where I describe how to shape them, and the science behind their attractiveness. The default female body shapes that come even with the best bodies are generally poor.

LeLutka heads are designed to fit Maitreya bodies perfectly., and they so so without neck rings:

There is a PDF I have written about how to set up an avatar composed of a Maitreya body, and LeLutka head, that is available for download here:

Should you decide to get the same head and body you see someone using, I recommend first you inspect the avatar's neck to see how well the head fits the body. If it fits poorly there will be a neckline there. If there is an overhang there the fit is very poor. If all you see is a color difference look closer and you will likely see a shallow angle corner, seam, or crease, in which case the color difference is due to light reflecting differently off a different angle on either side of the seam. A perfectly fitting head will not have this over most, if not all, of the circumference. The neck fixes supplied by the avatar body makes do not fix this, and will make it look worse. They are for transitioning to classic heads only.
Demo everything including every combination of head and body before you buy. Be sure to watch out for neck rings that appear in common lighting conditions. These rings appear due the head to body connection not being flush, and and therefor light reflecting differently on either side of this seam.
Of the higher cost bento mesh bodies, Alantori offers a good male body at a reasonable cost:
